Save Money $$$

We all want to save money on our water, electrical and heating bills. The tips below will help you to save your hard earned $$ and are also environmentally friendly.

1. Repair drips and leaks.

Household leaks can waste up to 10,000 gallons (37,800 litres) of water per year. One leaky toilet can waste as much as 100 gallons (378 litres) of water per day! That's alot of money going down the toilet. You can check your toilet by dropping a little food coloring in the tank. If the color appears in the bowl after a few minutes, that indicates that there’s a leak.

2. Install low-flow fixtures.

Upgrading to low-flow water fixtures can dramatically reduce your water consumption. High-efficiency toilets, for example, use 60-80% less water compared to pre-1992 toilets.

3. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.

This common tip really can make a difference. Turning the water off while you brush your teeth can save up to 8 gallons (30 litres) of water per day!

4. Use high-efficiency appliances.

Energy Star appliances use less energy, lowers utility bills and reduces impact on the environment. Energy Star appliances include washing machines, refidgerators, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and more. Many products offer rebates, too. Check with the retailer when shopping for a new appliance.

5. Smart laundry practices:

Try to wash your clothes when you have a full load and use cold water. There are cold water friendly laundry detergents on the market.  Also, use your washing machine and dryer during non-peak periods so that you can save money on electricity.

6. Take a shower instead of a bath.

A shower actually uses less water than filling up the tub. I know, a lot of people love their bathtime...maybe just exchange the bath for a shower a few times a week and you will see the difference in your water bill.
